Mistakes
Mistakes are made to learn what it means to not do and eventually what needs to be done.
I have made a lot of mistakes in my life.
When I was a kid, I made mistakes of not listening to my mother, which got me into a lot of trouble — like “don’t jump onto the glass coffee table!”
Did I listen to her? No — did I learn something? Yes.
That day I learn that I was not invisible. No matter how much I wish I was — I wasn’t. I found out that although my head was strong, the rest of my body wasn’t.
As a leader, I often need to look at my team, understand where they are in the journey, help them achieve their personal goals, and align with the vision. An option I have was to force them to move in the direction I want them to go, but I’ll end up with a strong mind but a broken body.
The mind and body should move in harmony rather than being disjointed.
In my teens, I made the mistake of going downhill on a bike so fast that the only way for me to stop was to hit a tree — did I learn something? Yes.
If you can’t do it alone, do it with someone who can — in this case, something — more specifically, a tree.
In my days as an entrepreneur, I made sure that the partner that I had was like-minded, a team that believes in the vision and ready to support the ideas that I had.
I have made many mistakes (still making new ones), and I am thankful that I made them. Without them, I would have been afraid of making tough decisions and being accountable for my choices.
Make mistakes, learn from them and make new ones — don’t just live by it — own it.
